General Description

The Director, Student Engagement is responsible for strategic planning, marketing and implementation of student engagement activities for all students, with a focus on first-year students. The Director will provide oversight to the Matriculation and Onboarding Committee, coordinating activities and services from all College offices involved in guiding a student toward full enrollment. Responsibilities include oversight of the Office of Student Engagement and the following areas: The Student Programming Board, First Year Experience programs including new student orientation, and working collaboratively with other campus offices and services in providing engagement and involvement opportunities for students. The Director is responsible for providing supervision and managerial oversight to the Coordinator of the LGBTQ Center, policy and procedure development, fiscal management, assessment and supervision of office professional and student staff.

Specific Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise the operations of the Office of Student Engagement including strategic planning and implementation; design and supervision of program delivery; policy and procedural development; and marketing information related to the Office and its programs.

• Provide supervision and managerial oversight to Coordinator of the LGBTQ Center.

• Provide leadership, supervision, and evaluation for Office of Student Engagement staff members including the coordination of student employee and staff manuals.

• Oversee the planning and implementation of major student-focused events on campus including Student Orientation and Registration (SOaR), New Student Orientation; Online Orientation; Welcome Week; Student Involvement Days; Spring Fling; and thematic programming.

• Maintain accurate and current files pertaining to student programs.

• Supervise the Student Programming Board in creating a broad range of student focused programs that reflect a diverse student population.

• Provide oversight and management of all student ticket sales (e.g. movie tickets, bus trips – NYC, Washington, DC, local museums.)

• Work collaboratively with a wide-range of students, student clubs and organizations, staff and faculty advisors.

• Establish procedures for planning and evaluating programming efforts.

• Serve as Student Life liaison to regional student life networks.

• Provide fiscal management of specific budget lines as assigned.

• Oversee the recruitment, selection and training of Class I Student Organization faculty advisors (i.e. Student Government Association, Phi Theta Kappa, Vanguard, and literary magazines).

• Provide supervision and oversight of the comprehensive promotional strategy for the programs and activities associated with the Office of Student Engagement including all marketing efforts directed toward students, faculty, and staff.

• Participate in campus-wide committees as needed.

• Coordinate all logistics of the annual Spring Break Cross-Cultural Experience including the overall marketing and advertising strategy and required student documentation.

• Support the College’s service-learning efforts in collaboration with designated College personnel.

• Assist in campus-wide programs and initiatives, as assigned by the Dean/Assistant Dean.

• Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with the mission, goals, and core values of the College.

• Deliver quality customer services to both internal and external constituents in a professional helpful and courteous manner.

• Maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds required.

• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required. Any and all degree(s) must be from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.

• Three (3) years of experience in student life, enrollment management, student affairs or progressive student programming leading to improved student engagement required.

• Experience working with multiple institutional constituents to implement, assess, and enhance institution-wide programs required.

• Demonstrated experience using data in program evaluation required.

• Demonstrated experience in creating and promoting learning-centered student activities and innovative student development methodologies that promote and cultivate student engagement required.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications required.

• Demonstrated excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills, both written and verbal required.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment, both as team leader and participant required.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities required.

• Ability to work effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community required.

• Understanding of and appreciation for the mission of an urban community college required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education/ Educational Administration or related field preferred.

• Previous experience working in a community college environment preferred.

• Familiarity with integrated management software such as Ellucian Banner preferred.
