General Description

The Academic Mentor, OCRS is a part-time hourly position within the College’s Office of Collegiate Recovery Services (OCRS). The College’s Office of Collegiate Recovery Services provides a supportive environment within the campus culture that reinforces the student’s decision to engage in a lifestyle of recovery from substance use. The Academic Mentor supports the transition process for students in recovery through coaching, planning, and connecting students with available resources and services to increase OCRS student retention and graduation rates. Assigned work hours are not to exceed 25 hours/week

Specific Responsibilities

• Conduct, with supervision, weekly support groups and meetings with OCRS students to support educational recovery plans.

• Attend group/cultural events with OCRS students in support of educational recovery plans.

• Attend all required training sessions and staff meetings throughout the academic year.

• Complete evaluations and other reports related to program goals and outcomes.

• Provide documentation of activities and outcomes related to assigned initiatives.

• Effectively communicate and collaborate with other College offices and departments as needed.

• Deliver quality services to both internal and external constituents in a professional helpful and courteous manner.

• Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with the mission, goals and core values of the College.

• Maintain the security and confidentiality of all student records, as well as maintain the confidentiality of other documents on behalf of the work area and the College.

• Maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of varying social, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in a human services field, or equivalent training/certification, is required. Any and all degree(s) must be from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.

• At least one (1) year of direct experience working with at-risk populations in an education or social service environment required.

• Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and professionalism required.

• Ability to work evening hours, as needed, required.

• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills required.

• Demonstrated competency organizing data, maintaining files, and preparing reports required.

• Commitment to providing services to diverse and at-risk student populations required.

• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel required.

• Ability to maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
