General Description

The Director, Assessment and Evaluation is responsible for the administration of academic assessment and evaluation strategies and systems to foster continuous improvement in teaching and learning. Reporting to the Vice President for Strategic Initiatives & Chief of Staff, this position works collaboratively with faculty, administrators and staff, as appropriate, in developing, maintaining and conducting effective assessment activities with a goal of promoting a culture of assessment and evaluation that contributes to academic excellence.

Specific Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and support for the College’s assessment of student learning.

• Serve as a resource for faculty and administrators in the development and implementation of assessment plans toward a goal of continuous improvement.

• Create, build and sustain an environment in which assessment is understood, practiced, valued and used for ongoing quality improvement.

• Interact with, and communicate directly with, faculty and administration to facilitate assessment procedures that provide institutional continuity.

• Implement and lead the process for academic program reviews.

• Provide support for service and administrative unit audits.

• Update and maintain the College’s repository for assessment information, data, “closing the loop” activities, and dissemination procedures.

• Collaborate with departments to collect assessment data and analyze data using research methodologies and applicable software applications.

• Provide feedback to College units on the quality and content of assessment work and provide needed assistance.

• Prepare and disseminate reports of data and analysis to the College community, as appropriate, in an accessible format.

• Provide leadership, oversight, and direct support for curricular and programmatic assessment activities.

• Plan programs and activities that support assessment and evaluation across the institution.

• Manage the general education assessment processes in collaboration with department heads and deans; including sampling, data collection, assessment training, and data analysis.

• Collaborate with the office of Institutional Research to produce institutional data that informs analysis of effectiveness.

• Develop training materials and provide training on the fundamentals of assessment and evaluation.

• Select and supervise the College’s Curriculum Assessment Team and assigned staff.

• Manage the College’s IRB process.

• Collaborate with appropriate committees, faculty members, and administrators in interpreting assessment data and in identifying strategies for continuous quality improvement.

• Participate in College-wide assessment initiatives, as needed.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree required. Any and all degree(s) must be from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.

• Three (3) years of relevant experience in an analytical or research role required, preferably in a higher education setting.

• Excellent oral and written communications skills, including the ability to clearly communicate about assessment methods and results in non-technical language required.

• Excellent interpersonal skills required.

• Demonstrated knowledge of educational testing, curriculum development, program review and research design and methods required.

• Ability to make data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement required.

• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and database software programs required.

• Ability to maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment inclusive of students, faculty and staff of varying social economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree preferably in education or social science.

• Three (3) years of relevant experience in an analytical or research role preferably in a higher education setting.

• Previous supervisory experience preferred.

• Familiarity with accreditation, as it relates to assessment, is preferred.
